Review of the  issues in the Moravian Church

If you are a first time visitor to this site this chronological list of links to News articles from  the Winston Salem Journal and letters from leaders of our church will reveal the battle that is taking place over what  beliefs should be the foundation of our faith.

Although the issue of what  essential beliefs  Christians are given to believe have been challenged for centuries, many Moravians felt our theology was safe and guarded.

For those following the events that unfolded in Winston Salem in 2002 when a respected minister was reported to be writing and lecturing that Jesus is not the only way to Salvation,  concern for that minister quickly turned to disbelief at  the reaction by leaders of our denomination whose job it is to preserve and guard the spiritual welfare of our Church.

Clearly Jesus Christ was on trial again, this time by what some describe as the ( Post Modern) culture.  He was being characterized as an imposter, not the savior of the world. When given the opportunity by  the media to affirm that we knew Jesus Christ as savior of man, leaders of our province  chose to speak of the importance of preserving relationships among ourselves.   Those who supported the position that it was all about relationships (us) forgot that it is all about Christ.

The following list links to documents that are vital to the understanding of the division over doctrine that the Moravian Church continues to struggle with as key ministers and mission personnel of the church  resign over the lack of clear Spiritual direction by Provincial Leaders .

Interpretation of Synod actions on Homosexuality
This interpretation of resolutions regarding Synod actions provides a historical context that reveals the evolution from 1974 when Northern Synod resolved that the Moravian Church welcome and extend an invitation to homosexuals as to all people. Followed by several  additional Synod actions which yielded Resolutions with language that indicated that Homosexual lifestyle was not determined to be sin and that homosexuals be allowed to celebrate their lives in the Church as well as assume leadership roles.
